The University of Florida 200 Free Relay team

400 Medley Relay
The University of Arizona 400
Medley Relay team comprised of Ana Agy, Ann Chandler, Whitney Lopus
and Justine Schluntz close out the first night of competition with a
victory in 3:29.76.
Ana Agy, Arizona(on winning the 400 yard medley relay)- “It was really special
to me just because that was the first relay I was ever on and we won
it all three times I was on it so for me to win that my senior year,
it was awesome. Winning that one shows our strength as a group for
when we start the big day tomorrow. It sets the team up really well to
compete at the top level tomorrow morning and get a lot of girls to
qualify.”
The University of Arizona added a
win in the 200 medley relay to sweep the medley relays. The team
of Ana Agy, Annie Chandler, Erin Campbell and Justine Schluntz won the
event in 1:35.72.

Julia Smit of Stanford added a
victory in the 400 IM to her earlier win in the 200 IM going 4:00.9.
She won both events in 2009 as well.

definitely one of my goals coming into the meet, I wanted to defend my title
that I had gotten the last two years. It’s really important for me just to get
the points for the team. It’s a really close race for the title.”

started off really strong as a team and after watching Julia win her race I just
knew that it was my time and I needed to follow her lead. Rachel Komisarz and I
go way back and we have been racing all of the time so to get her pool record is
really an honor because she is an outstanding swimmer. It was a lot of fun.”

all at once. It’s been my goal to win since my freshman year and over the past
four years I have always gone at least a second and a half faster on my relay
splits in the 400 medley relay. It’s taken me until this year to be able to
swim the race like I swim it in the relay, relaxed. It’s taken me four years to
find that and it’s phenomenal.”

Georgia(on winning the 800 yard freestyle relay)- “It was really
exciting to be part of the relay team, because going into SEC’s I
didn’t know whether I was going to be a part of the relay team.
Being a part of the relay was really exciting. Getting the pool
record was great. I went a personal best split and that was really
exciting. Overall I am really happy at how tonight went.”
Wendy Trott of Georgia wins the
1650 freestyle going 15:48.87

freestyle) “It’s great. I’m very happy. It’s a very close competition right
now so I’m just glad I could get those points for Georgia. It was tough and fun

the start to take the 200 backstroke in 1:49.92 at the 2010 NCAA
Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Purdue University.

backstroke) “It was my goal of this year. I was training to try to win the
NCAA title so I’m really happy right now. It’s hard to say anything about my
feelings because I still have one more race, but I’m really happy I got my goal
accomplished. I have done a lot of hard training and now it has paid off.”

freestyle in 47.61.

“Texas A&M has never had a national champion in any race so we knew that there
was a couple people trying to be that first one for the team. It’s all about
our team. We always feel like we are really underrated so we wanted to come in
here and show what we can do and show how hard we work. I came in second in
2008 and then had surgery so I had to sit last year out. I have been thinking
about this race for two years so it’s a pretty sweet feeling to hit that wall
and hear my name. The time is not at all what I wanted but it doesn’t matter.
A win is a win so I’m happy.”

200 Butterfly
Elaine Breeden of Stanford wins the 200
butterfly in 1:52.39 to complete a sweep of the butterfly events.
Elaine Breeden, Stanford (on winning the 200 yard butterfly)-
“It’s awesome. I felt a lot of pressure going into that race since it’s such a
tight race. I knew I had all of my teammates supporting me and I had such a
great swim tonight so I just wanted to finish up with a good one.”

Woodward, Elizabeth Webb and Julia Smit take the 400 free relay in 3:12.32.
Julia
Smit, Stanford(on anchoring the 400 yard freestyle relay)- “Going into the last relay
the only thing we could do is win. That’s the most points we could score so
that was definitely our goal. It’s our coach’s first relay win of her career
so we are really happy to give that to her.”
To clinch the national championship, the
University of Florida 400 free relay team of Elizabeth Kemp, Shara Stafford,
Gemma Spofforth and Jamie Bohunicky had to place at least 5th. The team
took third place and secured the title. Shara Stafford jumps for joy after
being signaled by her coaches that they had won the national championship
setting off the celebration.
